Applying for a Habitat Home Print E-mail

Building a Habitat for Humanity home is a true partnership between the selected family, the affiliate office, and our dedicated volunteers.

In order to begin the process, you must:

  • have been a Mesa County resident for a minimum of 1 year,
  • be willing to partner and contribute 500 hours of sweat equity during the building of your home (volunteer opportunities other than construction are available for persons with disabilities),
  • be willing to repay a zero interest mortgage (usually less than rent),
  • not have declared bankruptcy in the last 2 years, or owned property or a home in the last 2 years.

Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County's application process begins with a simple phone call. At your pre-application meeting, Habitat's Family Services Coordinator will talk with you about your credit report and ask some general questions to determine how to move forward with the application process. It takes courage to make that first call, but making it could change your life.

Contact Habitat's Family Services Coordinator, Robynne Wilson at 970-255-9850, or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

How the family selection process works:

  • Meet with Habitat's Family Services Coordinator. Appointments can be made by calling the number above.
  • Qualified families are then invited to submit a full application with supporting documents.
  • Your application is reviewed by our Family Selection Committee which meets once a month.
  • You will receive notification of your acceptance or denial, as well as an invitation for discussion with our Family Services Coordinator.
  • Once a family is accepted, they will sign acceptance paperwork and begin working on sweat equity hours while their home is being built.

Please note that we consider a family's need as part of our minimum requirements. We choose working families that cannot qualify for affordable housing through other avenues. In general, this means the selected family will have an income in the range of 30-50% average median income based on annual HUD guidelines.

Ready to see if you qualify?

Call 970-255-9850 today and set up your pre-application appointment. We're waiting for your call.
